Tea Time

My best friend and I have been through hell and back together.  When one of us is overwhelmed, the other reminds her of Step One:  Tea

It’s the most relaxing way to start the day.  Rather than a bitter jolt from coffee, tea soothes, comforts and revives.

Step One is sit down and have a cup of tea before you dive into the trials and tribulations of daily life.  Just slow down … and steep in the pure goodness of wonderful tea.

There is more science to this than meets the eye.  Tea contains an amino acid called theanine – nature’s own anxiety medication.  Mixed with the lower levels of caffeine found in tea, it helps you focus without those coffee jitters.

I started drinking tea with milk when I was about five years old.  Toast fingers dipped in tea was a favorite.  Coffee crashed into my life much later.

The Chinese tell the tale of a legendary Emperor in 2737BC who discovered tea when some leaves were blown into his hot water.

The Japanese have perfected the ceremony of tea to an art form.  There is nothing better than a steaming mug of green tea served with ceremony.

And India gives us the lovely Assam and Darjeeling teas.

One of my personal favourites is Rooibos from South Africa.

While my main go-to tea is the good old standard black orange pekoe tea, there are a few herbal and flavoured concoctions in my beautiful Bombay wood tea caddy.

I love the simplicity of white tea.

I love green tea – with or without jasmine – with my meals.

Black tea is my morning brew.

While I am not fond of flowery herbal teas – I am allergic to chamomile tea – I do enjoy several blends.

Celestial Seasonings Bengal Spice is an exotic chai tea blend of cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and vanilla.

Stash has a Vanilla Nut Creme tea that is perfect for winter sipping.

I enjoy the subtlety rosehip tea, and the medicinal qualities of the more astringent Dandelion tea.

I am on a quest to remove coffee from my diet during the week.  On the weekends, I like to wake up to freshly ground locally sourced coffee made the old fashioned way.  It’s a simple pleasure I enjoy with my man.  He spoils me with the best cup of coffee every morning.

The ritual of waking up to a hot beverage is as comforting as the rising sun.

Drop me a line on your favourite tea … I’m always willing to try something fresh and new.
