The Meaning of Life

If you happened to see someone dancing on the street this morning as she walked her two dogs  … that was me.  Headphones and iPhone, two bewildered dogs and a dozen cars honking because I was just that happy!  I hope I made someone’s morning.  But I am also content to beat my own drum and shake it on the dancefloor/sidewalk all alone.

Happiness.  Euphoria.  I found the meaning to life.

It’s choice.

There is a duality in everything.  Each ray of light has a dark side.  There is good and evil in everything.  You get to choose which side you want to live on.

I chose to find the strength, beauty, humility and courage in cancer.

I choose to see the positive signs when all the cards were stacked against me.

I will make a choice every day to be light.  (That doesn’t mean I will take your shit).

People can relate to the emotions of music.  That transcendal feeling when a piece of music shakes the foundation of your core.  It can bring exquisite beauty or heart-wrenching pain. Those chills that shiver right through you and out like a the ripples of a pebble skipped on a lake.  You communicate your state to the Universe and it responds.

That is why music has been a part of us since the dawn of time.

Music-induced pleasure surges through us with an intense emotional arousal, causing changes in heart rate, pulse, breathing rate and blood flows to the regions in the brain where dopamine lives.  [Placeholder for more scientific research on the power of music]

Some day science will find what we’ve always known.  Something opens up – or shuts down – in your soul.

Duality.

There is a place and a time for grief, pain, loss, fear, anger … but we haven’t been sentenced to live there.  Your choice.  You could stay here for eternity …

Whether you like Ariana Grande or not (c’mon I am a night club dancer!) … listen to her song, or any song, that strikes the chord of your very soul.  I was literally vibin’ down the street.  Read the lyrics and listen to the joy!

no tears left to cry by Ariana Grande

Right now, I’m in a state of mind
I wanna be in like all the time
Ain’t got no tears left to cry
So I’m pickin’ it up, pickin’ it up
I’m lovin’, I’m livin’, I’m pickin’ it up
I’m pickin’ it up, pickin’ it up
I’m lovin’, I’m livin’, I’m pickin’ it up (oh, yeah)

I’m pickin’ it up (yeah), pickin’ it up (yeah)
Lovin’, I’m livin’, so we turnin’ up
Yeah, we turnin’ it up

Ain’t got no tears in my body
I ran out, but boy, I like it, I like it, I like it
Don’t matter how, what, where, who tries it
We out here vibin’, we vibin’, we vibin’

Comin’ out, even when it’s rainin’ down
Can’t stop now, can’t stop so shut your mouth
Shut your mouth, and if you don’t know
Then now you know it, babe
Know it, babe, yeah

Right now, I’m in a state of mind
I wanna be in like all the time
Ain’t got no tears left to cry
So I’m pickin’ it up, pickin’ it up (oh yeah)
I’m lovin’, I’m livin’, I’m pickin’ it up
Oh, I just want you to come with me
We’re on another mentality
Ain’t got no tears left to cry (to cry)
So I’m pickin’ it up, pickin’ it up (oh yeah)
I’m lovin’, I’m livin’, I’m pickin’ it up

Pickin’ it up (yeah), pickin’ it up (yeah)
Lovin’, I’m livin’, so we turnin’ up (we turnin’ it up)
Yeah, we turnin’ it up

They point out the colours in you, I see ’em too
And, boy, I like ’em, I like ’em, I like ’em
We’re way too fly to partake in all this hate
We out here vibin’, we vibin’, we vibin’

Comin’ out, even when it’s rainin’ down
Can’t stop now, can’t stop, so shut your mouth

Comin’ out, even when it’s rainin’ down
Can’t stop now (hmm, oh)
Shut your mouth
Ain’t got no tears left to cry
Oh yeah, oh yeah

Oh, I just want you to come with me
We’re on another mentality
Ain’t got no tears left to cry (cry)
So I’m pickin’ it up, pickin’ it up (oh yeah)
I’m lovin’, I’m livin’, I’m pickin’ it up

At some point, each and every one of us will be accountable for which side we chose.  From the Pope to the lovely old cat lady down the street, from the serial killer to the boys who volunteer their time.

This weekend in Canada, we celebrate Thanksgiving.  Thank you for being with me on my journey … I am grateful.
